According to Biden, When US Will Have Enough Covid-19 Vaccine Doses For Every Adult?
President Joe Biden said on Tuesday that by the end of May, the United States would have enough vaccines for every adult, two months sooner than the administration had predicted.
He said that the United States was able to speed up the timeline thanks to a contract with Johnson & Johnson to expedite the manufacturing of the single-dose vaccine, which included an arrangement under which Merck would support Johnson & Johnson with production and the use of the Defense Production Act to obtain required equipment and supplies.
In addition, Biden stated that the federal government would ensure that every teacher receives the first dose of the vaccine this month.
The Biden administration brokered the contract between the two large pharmaceutical giants, which was first mentioned by The Washington Post after officials discovered that Johnson & Johnson had fallen behind in its vaccine production.
Even if there are enough doses for every American, there could be a bottleneck in administering them if there aren’t enough vaccinators or places where people can get the shots, especially in underserved rural and urban areas.
The Biden administration has attempted to solve this problem by sending FEMA and military forces to states and establishing federally operated mass vaccination centers.
According to White House press secretary Jen Psaki, the federal government will ship 15.2 million doses to states this week, up from 14.5 million last week and almost twice the amount of doses sent out prior to Biden’s inauguration.
