Florida Will Not Issue Vaccine Passports – What Is The Reason Behind It?
On Friday, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis signed an executive order prohibiting the use of “vaccine passports,” or documents that provide evidence of vaccination.
According to the decree, “vaccine passports… or any uniform documents to certify an individual’s COVID-19 vaccination status to a third party” are not allowed to be issued by government entities in Florida.
“Today, I signed an executive order banning the use of so-called COVID-19 vaccine passports,” DeSantis, a Republican, said. “The Legislature is trying to make these rights permanent for Floridians, and I expect to sign them into law soon.” Vaccination documents are confidential documents, according to DeSantis, and “should not be shared by mandate,” and “vaccine passports limit individual rights and harm patient privacy.”
It will be implemented immediately. It also prohibits businesses from asking consumers to have paperwork proving the Covid-19 vaccine or post-transmission recovery to obtain entry or receive services from them. The order comes after DeSantis confirmed on Monday that he would take action to forbid “vaccine passports” and other paperwork. The same day, more Floridians became eligible for vaccines.
As of now, Florida has over 2 million confirmed cases of the coronavirus, including about 34,000 deaths. Meanwhile, Florida has delivered more than 6 million vaccination doses, with 16.3 percent completely vaccinated in the state.
